Memorial Run

Date: Sunday, November 22, 2020
Registration: 9:00 to 9:45
Race Time : 10 am
Start/Finish: Lewis Park river walkway just North of the 5th Street Bridge

This annual run is in recognition of family and friends who we have lost,
but live on in our memory. It is a low key event for people of all pace levels
from walkers to runners. Strollers are welcome, but no dogs please.

Being fast will not necessarily make you a winner! You can walk, jog or run
at whatever speed you wish. Participants choose one of three measured
distances and predict their time at the free registration. The winners will
be the closest to their own predicted time. Maximum time allowed is 50
minutes. Obviously, no watches or timing devices are allowed. CVRR
welcomes all club members and the public to take part in the event. There
will be prizes for the top Male and Female racers along with several draw

An Open House will welcome those who would like to learn more about the CVRR club between 9am and 11:30am
A short AGM will follow.

Hope to see you all at any or all of these events.
Ron Crowther
President, CVRR

Because of Covid restrictions, our AGM will be done virtually this year.
Our usual Memorial Run will be integrated as part of the following
Fred Bigelow 100K. We suggest that you choose any of your run segments
in the 100K and dedicate it to the memory of all other CVRR members
who are now no longer with us. They live on in our memories.

Fred Bigelow was an athlete. A good friend to many. A strong CVRR member/volunteer.
The kind of person that is sorely missed when they’re not there. Fred has joined a growing
group of our club members/friends that have passed away over the many years the
Road Runners have been together. One of the things Fred was passionate about was his
love of the Comox Valley. He promoted it whenever he got the chance. He made every effort
throughout his storied military career to be posted here nearer to his family, his roots.
Fred was a positive source of energy and enthusiasm that never failed to come up with an
ambitious idea.
To honour Fred and promote our beautiful area we have created this 100K memorial run to held
all over the Comox Valley: from Fanny Bay to Oyster River, from Mt Washington to Hornby
Island. Participants have the month of November to complete the distance.
The proceeds will go towards the charities mentioned above. Successful 100k participants will
receive a hand stamped metal shoe tag with a very unique “Fred’ism” that will forever remind
the wearer of this event and this amazing CVRR member.
